Sometimes the useful Amazon pricing question is not “How much will Amazon charge?” It is “What do I need to charge so the standard Amazon selling fees do not reduce the amount I need to keep?”

This Amazon reverse fee calculator starts with your target take-home amount and works backward. It estimates the item price needed after the category referral fee, the Individual plan’s per-item fee when selected, and an applicable media closing fee.

This is standard selling-fee math, not a complete profit calculation. Product cost, FBA or FBM fulfillment, storage, advertising, returns, taxes, and other business costs are not deducted here. Once you have the required price, use the Amazon Profit Calculator to check whether the sale is actually worth making.

Start with the amount you want remaining after standard Amazon selling fees. Results update as you enter your numbers.

Decision snapshot

Use the fee load to understand the pricing gap

The reverse calculation shows how much the customer must pay so the standard Amazon selling fees leave your target amount. The fee load shows how much of the order is consumed before fulfillment and other business costs are considered.

Lower fee loadUnder 12%

Amazon’s standard selling fees take a smaller share of this order than many common referral-fee categories.

Watch for
Fulfillment, product, advertising, returns, storage, and account-level costs that are not included here.
Next move
Run the required price through the Amazon Profit Calculator before treating it as a workable selling price.
Common fee pressure12% to under 18%

The standard selling fees create a noticeable gap between what the customer pays and what remains.

Watch for
Category changes, price-tier boundaries, low order value, and assuming shipping charged is free revenue.
Next move
Check full profit and compare nearby prices, especially when the result sits close to a category threshold.
High fee load18% or more

Amazon’s standard selling fees consume a large share of this order before fulfillment and normal business costs begin.

Watch for
High-referral-fee categories, fixed fees on low prices, closing fees, and weak margins after FBA or FBM costs.
Next move
Review the category, order value, product economics, and fulfillment assumptions before building a pricing strategy around this result.
How we’re defining this

This result covers standard selling fees, not profit

The ranges are practical planning signals, not universal rules. A lower selling-fee load can still produce an unprofitable sale when product, fulfillment, and operating costs are high.

Target take-homeThe amount remaining after the standard Amazon selling fees calculated here.
Required item priceThe smallest cent-level item price estimated to reach the target after adding shipping charged and deducting the included Amazon fees.
Selling-fee loadThe included Amazon selling fees divided by the total order amount.
Total order amountRequired item price plus shipping charged to the customer. Gift wrapping is not collected here.
ExcludedSales tax, product cost, FBA or FBM fulfillment, storage, ads, returns, monthly subscription allocation, and other business expenses.

What this calculator covers

  • Amazon.com US category referral fees, including published thresholds and minimums
  • The Individual selling plan’s $0.99 per-item fee when selected
  • The $1.80 closing fee for applicable media and video game categories
  • Shipping charged to the customer as part of the referral-fee base

Collected sales tax is excluded. Gift-wrapping charges are also excluded because the calculator does not collect them. The Professional plan’s $39.99 monthly subscription is not allocated to one order.

Actual fees can differ because of Amazon’s product classification, account, programs, and future fee changes. Confirm the assigned fee category and charges in Seller Central before relying on the estimate. View Amazon’s current U.S. fee schedule.

How the Amazon reverse fee calculation works

The calculator tests cent-level order amounts until it finds the smallest price that leaves at least your target after the included Amazon fees. It uses the item price plus shipping charged as the total price for the referral-fee calculation.

This matters because Amazon’s fee table is not one flat percentage. Some categories have minimum referral fees, some change rates at a price threshold, and others apply progressive rates to different portions of the total price. The reverse calculation checks those boundaries instead of assuming one universal formula.

Worked example

Keeping $25 after Amazon fees in Clothing and Accessories

Assume you want $25.00 remaining after standard Amazon selling fees, charge the customer $5.00 for shipping, and use the Professional plan.

At a total order amount of $30.12, the 17% Clothing and Accessories referral fee rounds to $5.12. That leaves $25.00 after the included Amazon fee, so the required item price is $25.12 before the $5.00 shipping charge.

The $25.00 is not profit. Product cost, fulfillment, advertising, returns, taxes, and other expenses still need to be deducted.

Next decision

Check whether the required Amazon price leaves real profit

Add product, fulfillment, advertising, and other per-sale costs before deciding the reverse-calculated price works for the business.

Amazon Reverse Fee Calculator FAQs

How do I calculate what to charge after Amazon fees?

Start with the amount you want remaining after standard Amazon selling fees. The calculator works backward through the selected category referral fee, selling plan fee, and applicable closing fee to estimate the total order amount and item price needed to reach that target.

Does Amazon charge a referral fee on shipping?

Generally, yes. Amazon defines an item’s total price as its list price plus shipping costs and any gift-wrapping charges. This calculator includes the shipping amount you enter in the referral-fee base, but it does not collect a separate gift-wrapping amount.

Does this calculator include FBA or FBM fulfillment costs?

No. This calculator only works backward through the standard Amazon selling fees it can estimate from the category, plan, and order amount. FBA and FBM costs vary by product and fulfillment setup. Enter those costs in the Amazon Profit Calculator after finding the required price.

Why can the required price jump near a category threshold?

Some Amazon categories change referral rates when the total price crosses a threshold. Clothing and Accessories, Baby Products, Beauty, Grocery, and Lawn Mowers are examples. A one-cent increase can move the order into a different rate tier, so the reverse calculator checks each relevant price range before selecting the smallest cent-level price that reaches the target.

Does the calculator include the Professional plan’s monthly fee?

No. The Professional plan costs $39.99 per month, but its cost per order depends on monthly order volume. The Individual plan’s $0.99 per-item fee is included when selected. If you want to allocate part of the monthly subscription to each order, add that amount as an other per-sale cost in the Amazon Profit Calculator.

Does the Amazon reverse fee calculator include sales tax?

No. Collected sales tax is excluded because sellers often do not know the final tax amount before setting the item price and tax obligations vary. Confirm actual order charges and tax treatment in Seller Central and with an appropriate tax professional.

Is the target take-home amount the same as profit?

No. Target take-home is what remains after the standard Amazon selling fees calculated here. Profit also subtracts product cost, FBA or FBM fulfillment, advertising, returns, storage, taxes, and other expenses that apply to the sale.
