Stripe’s fee may look small on one payment, but it adds up across a month of sales. Enter the amount your customer pays to estimate Stripe’s standard US fee for a domestic online card transaction and see how much revenue remains after processing. This is not profit. Product costs, shipping, advertising, refunds, and other business expenses are not included.

Fee breakdown
What this means
On this payment, Stripe’s estimated processing fee is $3.20, or approximately 3.2% of the amount charged. That leaves $96.80 after the processing fee.
That amount is revenue remaining after payment processing, not profit. Product costs, shipping, advertising, refunds, and other business expenses still need to be deducted.
Why the fixed fee matters on smaller payments
The 30¢ charge applies once per successful transaction, so it takes a larger share of a lower-priced sale. On a $5 payment, the estimated 45¢ fee equals 9% of the amount charged. On a $100 payment, the $3.20 fee equals 3.2%.
That does not automatically make a lower-priced product unworkable. It means the price needs enough room to cover the processing fee along with the rest of the seller’s costs.
Stripe Fee Calculator FAQs
What Stripe fee does this calculator use?
This calculator uses Stripe’s standard US rate of 2.9% + $0.30 for a successful domestic online card transaction. It does not represent every Stripe payment method, transaction type, or account.
Why might my actual Stripe fee be different?
Stripe adds 0.5% for manually entered cards, 1.5% for international cards, and another 1% when currency conversion is required. Other payment methods and custom pricing arrangements use different rates.
Is the amount remaining after the Stripe fee profit?
No. It is revenue remaining after the estimated payment-processing fee. Product costs, shipping, platform fees, advertising, refunds, and other relevant business expenses still need to be deducted before profit can be calculated.
What happens to the Stripe fee when I issue a refund?
Stripe’s processing fees from the original successful payment are not returned when the payment is refunded. Stripe also notes that a refund may incur a fee depending on the payment method and account setup. This calculator does not include refund costs.
Does this calculator include Stripe dispute fees?
No. Stripe currently lists a $15 fee when a card dispute is received and another $15 fee when a dispute is manually countered. The countered-dispute fee is returned if the dispute is won. Rare network fees can also apply.
How much should I charge to receive a specific amount after Stripe fees?
Use the Stripe Reverse Fee Calculator to work backward from the amount you need after the processing fee. It estimates the customer payment required to reach that target.
