Shopify Profit Calculator

Last verified October 2026 ⓘ What does this mean?
This calculator was manually reviewed to confirm current platform fees, plan details, and assumptions as of October 2026.

Platforms may update pricing or terms at any time.

A Shopify sale can look healthy until payment fees, product cost, shipping, advertising, apps, and the monthly plan all start taking their share.

Use this Shopify profit calculator to estimate profit per order, profit margin, and monthly profit after Shopify fees, payment processing, product costs, shipping, advertising, apps, and plan costs. It supports Shopify Payments and outside payment providers, including the additional Shopify transaction fee that may apply when Shopify Payments is not used.

Enter the numbers for one online order. Optional costs can stay blank if they do not apply. The calculator will not show a profit result until an item subtotal is entered.

Decision snapshot

Use your margin to decide what deserves attention

Shopify gives sellers more control, but it also moves more of the cost structure into the seller’s hands. Your margin shows whether the product has room for customer acquisition, discounts, returns, app costs, and the ordinary friction of running your own store.

Healthy25%+ profit margin

This product likely has room to absorb normal store costs and still leave profit.

Watch for
Ads, discounts, free shipping, returns, and paid apps quietly eating the cushion.
Next move
Test one controlled acquisition, promotion, or shipping variable at a time and confirm the margin holds.
Watch12% to 25% profit margin

Profit exists, but the product may not have much room for traffic costs or operating surprises.

Watch for
Original price, product cost, shipping, payment setup, ad cost, and monthly app expense.
Next move
Review the starting price and biggest cost driver before increasing ad spend or sales volume.
RiskyUnder 12% or negative profit

The product is fragile as priced. More orders may increase work and cash demands without enough profit.

Watch for
Pricing, product cost, fulfillment, double payment fees, ads, returns, and unentered store costs.
Next move
Fix the math before buying traffic. Start with price, then fulfillment and the costs you control.
How we’re defining this

These ranges are working definitions, not universal rules

Seller Calculators uses these ranges as practical planning signals. Your target may change with product type, repeat purchase rate, ad strategy, return risk, labor, and how much operating room you want before an order feels worth winning.

Profit marginEstimated profit per order divided by item revenue plus shipping charged.
ProfitItem revenue plus shipping charged, minus payment fees, entered order costs, and allocated monthly costs when supplied.
Payment-fee baseItem subtotal after discounts plus shipping charged. Collected sales tax is excluded from this estimate.
Monthly costsThe plan, apps, and other fixed store costs you enter, spread across estimated monthly orders.
Decision signalA prompt for what to check next, not a guarantee that a product will or will not work.

What this calculator covers

  • U.S. online standard Shopify Payments rates for Basic, Grow, and Advanced
  • Custom Shopify Payments rates for Plus
  • Shopify’s additional transaction fee plus an outside processor fee for third-party payments
  • Product, fulfillment, advertising, other per-order costs, and optional monthly store costs

Collected sales tax is excluded from both revenue and the payment-fee calculation. Shopify may charge payment processing on tax collected, so the actual fee can be slightly higher than this estimate.

It does not estimate Shopify Tax charges, currency conversion, duties, international or premium-card pricing, chargebacks, income tax, or every possible operating cost. Rates vary by country, payment method, card type, and account. Confirm the rate shown in Shopify admin before relying on the estimate. View Shopify’s current pricing.

How Shopify profit is calculated

The calculator starts with item revenue and shipping charged, then subtracts the payment fees and business costs entered. Collected sales tax is excluded. That keeps the calculator consistent with the other Seller Calculators tools and avoids requiring a number many sellers do not have while planning.

Estimated profit per order = item subtotal + shipping charged − payment fees − product cost − shipping cost − ads − other order costs − allocated monthly costs

Shopify Profit Calculator FAQs

What Shopify plans does this profit calculator support?

The calculator supports Basic, Grow, Advanced, and Plus. Basic, Grow, and Advanced use Shopify’s published U.S. standard online rates. Plus merchants enter the Shopify Payments rate from their own agreement or Shopify admin because Plus processing rates are contracted.

Does this calculator include the monthly Shopify plan?

It can. Enter your combined monthly Shopify plan, paid app, and other fixed store costs, along with estimated monthly orders. The calculator spreads those costs across the entered order volume for the per-order result and subtracts the full amount from monthly profit.

Does the Shopify profit calculator include sales tax?

No. Collected sales tax is excluded from both revenue and the payment-fee calculation. Shopify may charge payment processing on tax collected, so your actual fee can be slightly higher than this estimate. Confirm the final charge in Shopify admin.

How are third-party payment fees calculated?

When you select a third-party payment provider, the calculator applies Shopify’s additional transaction fee for the selected plan and the percentage plus fixed fee you enter for the outside processor. This is why an outside provider can create two fee layers.

What should I include as product cost?

Include the direct cost to make, manufacture, source, or print the item. Packaging, inserts, fulfillment charges, and other costs can be entered in the shipping or other per-order cost fields so they are not forgotten.

What profit margin is healthy on Shopify?

Seller Calculators uses 25% or more as a healthy planning signal, 12% to 25% as a watch range, and under 12% as risky. These are working definitions, not universal rules. Your target depends on the product, advertising, labor, return risk, fixed expenses, and growth strategy.

Why might my actual Shopify profit be different?

Actual payment rates can vary by country, card type, payment method, account, and contracted pricing. Currency conversion, Shopify Tax charges, duties, chargebacks, refunds, labor, income tax, and unentered business costs can also change the result.
