Etsy’s Offsite Ads fee can take 12-15% of the total order when a sale comes from an ad Etsy runs outside its own marketplace.
The annoying part is that Etsy calculates that fee on the item price plus shipping. Then the rest of the fee stack still has to show up: transaction fees, payment processing, listing fees, shipping cost, product cost, packaging, and any discount you offered.
For sellers with tight margins, Offsite Ads can turn a sale that looked profitable into one that barely works. This is the fee worth checking before you assume the order was a win.
Why this fee matters
The Offsite Ads fee matters because it stacks on top of the rest of Etsy’s fees. It is not the only fee on the order. It is the extra fee that can show up after Etsy says an outside ad helped make the sale.
The real problem: Offsite Ads are calculated on the total order, including shipping, before you subtract product cost, shipping cost, packaging, discounts, and the rest of Etsy’s fee stack.
That makes the fee especially important for sellers with tight margins. A product can look profitable when you only compare the sale price to the product cost. Then a 12-15% Offsite Ads fee gets added, and suddenly the order has much less room than expected.
This is where sellers get caught. The order total looks good. The sale feels good. But the amount you actually keep can be much smaller once every fee and cost is counted.
Offsite Ads are not automatically a problem. If your margin is strong enough, the sale may still work. But if the product is already close to the edge, this fee can turn a decent-looking order into a thin one.
That is why the useful question is not just “What is the Offsite Ads fee?” The better question is: “Does this sale still make sense if Offsite Ads apply?”
Quick example
What Offsite Ads can remove before the rest of your costs
Offsite Ads hurt because they take their cut before the rest of your costs are even counted.
That $42.50 still has to cover Etsy transaction fees, payment processing, shipping cost, product cost, packaging, and any discount you offered. This is how a sale can look profitable at checkout and get a lot less impressive after the full fee stack is counted.
Calculate Profit After Offsite AdsWhat Is the Etsy Offsite Ads Fee?
Etsy automatically promotes listings through ads on platforms like Google, Facebook, and Instagram.
If a buyer clicks one of those ads and purchases your product, Etsy charges an additional fee on that order.
- 15% fee for most sellers
- 12% fee if your shop exceeds $10,000 in annual sales
- Applies only to orders attributed to offsite ads
This fee is separate from transaction fees, listing fees, and payment processing.
How the Offsite Ads Fee Is Calculated
The fee is based on the total order value (item price + shipping).
Example:
- Item price: $40
- Shipping charged: $5
- Total order: $45
If the 15% fee applies, Etsy takes $6.75 from this order just from Offsite Ads.
This is in addition to Etsy’s standard fees.
Offsite Ads fee examples by order size
The Offsite Ads fee is based on the total order amount, including shipping charged to the buyer. Here is what Etsy may take before transaction fees, payment processing, listing fees, shipping costs, or product costs are counted.
| Total order | 12% Offsite Ads fee | 15% Offsite Ads fee |
|---|---|---|
| $25.00 | $3.00 | $3.75 |
| $50.00 | $6.00 | $7.50 |
| $100.00 | $12.00 | $15.00 |
On a $50 order, Offsite Ads alone can remove $6.00–$7.50 before the rest of the Etsy fee stack is even included.
Fee math is only one part of the launch decision
This calculator shows part of the selling math. If you are testing a product you plan to list, run the Etsy Launch Check to see how the idea holds up after product costs, shipping, discounts, Etsy Ads, and Offsite Ads.
When the Offsite Ads Fee Applies
This fee only applies when Etsy attributes a sale to an offsite ad click.
Important details:
- You don’t pay unless the ad leads to a sale
- The attribution window can extend beyond the initial click
- Some sellers are automatically enrolled based on revenue
This makes it harder to predict when the fee will apply, which is why many sellers underestimate its impact.
Can you opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?
Whether you can opt out depends on your shop revenue.
- Under $10,000 in annual Etsy sales: sellers can usually opt out of Offsite Ads.
- $10,000 or more in annual Etsy sales: Etsy generally requires participation, but the fee rate drops from 15% to 12%.
That lower rate helps, but it does not make the fee small. A 12% Offsite Ads charge can still change whether an order is worth keeping, especially on low-margin products.
Why some sellers pay 12% and others pay 15%
Etsy uses two Offsite Ads fee rates based on annual shop revenue.
- 15% Offsite Ads fee: most sellers below the $10,000 annual sales threshold.
- 12% Offsite Ads fee: sellers above the $10,000 annual sales threshold.
The fee percentage changes, but the calculation base is the same: Etsy applies the Offsite Ads fee to the total order amount, including shipping charged to the buyer.

Build the price around the profit you need
If Offsite Ads could hit this order, do not price from the sale amount and hope the margin survives. Start with the profit you want to keep, then work backward to estimate the price needed after Etsy fees, payment processing, and optional Offsite Ads.
